Coming back from the from the White Continent

Antractica 21 December 2007 - 2 January 2008
Ushuaia, Argentina, 2-3 January 2008

For the next few days we rocked our way across the Drake Passage, then into the Beagle Channel, until finally Ushuaia was in sight. There was a bus arranged for people going straight to the airport so, as our hostel, La Posta, was out that way, we sneaked on board. We were received very warmly by the proprietors, who even gave us a bottle of champagne, and settled quickly and comfortably into our old apartment. That evening we went out to a Tenedor Libre restaurant (all you can eat buffet) in Ushuaia with Rowan and Jo (the Ozzies) and Jan and Jay (the South Africans) and had a very sociable evening.

Once fully refreshed, laundry done, emails read, etc. we caught an early morning bus to Puerto Natales. Torres Del Paine was beckoning us.

Would we recommend an Antarctica trip to others? Only if you can get a good deal. It is very expensive and we certainly don´t think it is worth the full price. We had a great time but preferred our trip to the Galapagos where the boat was much more luxurious, the excursions more varied, and the flora and fauna more diverse...and it was a lot cheaper than Antarctica. You could do a lot of travelling in South America for the price of an Antarctica cruise. You decide.
